Ingredients:

  • 1 can (400 g) chickpeas, rinsed and drained
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) lemon juice (from 1 ½ to 2 lemons)
  • 1 medium-to-large clove garlic, roughly chopped
  • ½ teaspoon fine sea salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • ½ cup (120 g) tahini
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons ice water, more as needed
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons Yes Superfood Curcumin Powder

Method:

  1. Prepare the Chickpeas:
Place the chickpeas in a medium saucepan and add the baking soda. Cover the chickpeas with water, then bring the mixture to a boil over high heat. Continue boiling for about 20 minutes, or until the chickpeas look plump, their skins are falling off, and they’re very soft.
Drain the chickpeas and rinse them under cool water for about 30 seconds. Set aside (no need to peel the chickpeas for this recipe!).

  2. Blend the Base Ingredients:
In a food processor or high-powered blender, combine the lemon juice, garlic, and salt. Blend until the garlic is finely chopped.

  3. Add the Tahini:
Add the tahini to the food processor and blend until the mixture becomes thick and creamy. Pause as needed to scrape down any tahini stuck to the sides or bottom of the processor.

  4. Incorporate the Ice Water:
While the processor is running, drizzle in 2 tablespoons of ice water. Scrape down the sides of the processor, and continue blending until the mixture is ultra-smooth, pale, and creamy. If the tahini is very thick, you might need to add 1 to 2 additional tablespoons of ice water for the right consistency.

  5. Add Remaining Ingredients:
Add the cooked chickpeas, cumin, olive oil, and Yes Superfood Curcumin Powder to the food processor. Blend everything together until the hummus is super smooth. Taste and adjust the seasoning with more salt or black pepper, if needed.

  6. Serve:
Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl. Garnish with fresh parsley, a sprinkle of cumin and paprika, and a few whole chickpeas for texture. Drizzle with a little extra-virgin olive oil for a finishing touch.

Tips for Success:

  • Ice Water Magic: Adding ice water while blending creates a smoother, fluffier hummus.
  • Flavor Boost: For extra depth, lightly toast the cumin before adding it to the food processor.
  • Custom Garnishes: Try adding pomegranate seeds, roasted pine nuts, or even a dash of chili flakes for a unique presentation.

Enjoy your creamy, vibrant curcumin hummus—perfect for dipping, spreading, or simply enjoying with warm pita bread!
